We start where every parent does: with the box.
Assembly is often the first sign of whether a product was thoughtfully designed or unnecessarily complicated. We pay attention to how clear the instructions are, whether tools are required, and how long the setup realistically takes.
Build quality also becomes apparent very quickly at this stage—especially when parts don’t align smoothly or materials feel less sturdy than expected.
2. Sleep Surface & Safety Checks
A safe sleep environment is non-negotiable.
We examine whether the mattress is firm, flat, and properly fitted within the frame, without gaps or shifting. Even slight unevenness or softness can be a concern, so this is one of the most important parts of our evaluation.
We also take a close look at overall structural integrity, including frame connections and fabric tension, since these directly affect long-term safety.
If a bassinet raises concerns in this area, it doesn’t move forward in our recommendations.
3. Stability & Base Design
A bassinet should feel secure, especially when placed next to a bed.
To get a realistic sense of stability, we check how the structure responds to light movement—something that naturally happens during nighttime use. Even small amounts of wobbling or imbalance can become noticeable over time.
