Farmhouse cribs for a dreamy nursery
Baby’s Little Place favorite cribs
The nursery’s environment should be comfortable and soothing for your baby. However, it should be practical and appealing to you too!
Luckily, the farmhouse style is one of the best choices to achieve all of this together! It combines practicality, coziness, and warmth, creating a perfect environment for the first years of your baby’s life.
The focal point of any nursery is a baby crib, and a farmhouse nursery is not an exception. But what does a crib need to fit into a farmhouse nursery? In short, it has to reflect a rustic charm and aesthetic of rural architecture while offering modern comfort and long-time practicality.
The best farmhouse cribs are convertible, safe, comfortable, and easy to use!
All our top-rated farmhouse cribs are convertible! They convert into different beds, allowing you to choose the conversions you need the most.
Most of them are full-size convertible cribs, but for those with space issues, we’ve found quality mini farmhouse cribs too. (You can find the best mini farmhouse cribs at the bottom of the list.)
Top 3 farmhouse cribs:
Evolur Waverly 5-in-1 convertible crib
A simple farmhouse yet luxurious crib designed to work effortlessly throughout the years!
A rustic charm:
Simmons Kids SlumberTime Paloma 4-in-1 convertible crib
A warm and cozy crib that gives a unique character to any farmhouse nursery.
Best bell-shaped farmhouse crib:
Evolur Belmar Curve 5-in-1 convertible crib
A farmhouse crib with a softly arched back panel and shiplap design.
What is a Convertible Crib?
A convertible crib is any crib that converts into one or more beds. As such, it grows with your child from newborn to toddler age and beyond. Therefore, by choosing a model that converts into an adult bed, your crib can be the only bed your child will ever need!
Depending on the number of their conversions, convertible cribs fall into three groups:
- 2-in-1 convertible crib is a crib that converts into one bed
- 3-in-1 convertible crib transits into two different beds
- 4-in-1 convertible crib transits into three different beds
Most parents decide on a 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 convertible crib. However, there are few things you have to know when buying such a crib.
What to consider when buying a convertible farmhouse crib?
Best Farmhouse Baby Cribs In 2023
Best Farmhouse Cribs with Sleek and Clean Lines:
My favorite choice:
Evolur Waverly 5-in-1 full-panel convertible crib
Why we love it:
This farmhouse yet modern crib looks gorgeous!
The Evolur Waverly convertible crib combines rustic and a modern, luxury design. I love how Evelur incorporated farmhouse elements into the crib and managed to achieve that a crib looks both simple and luxurious.
The main elements that make the Evolur Waverly an excellent farmhouse crib are its high functionality, a full-panel headboard with a distinctive shiplap design, and textured finishes for that unique rustic farmhouse feel.
But what I like the most about this crib is how well a modern and luxury touch blends into the farmhouse design. The straight frame lands a contemporary feel, curved accents add softness to the overall design, and quality materials together with fine craftsmanship add a luxurious finish to the crib.
Based on the description, one would think that a lot is going on in this crib. However, Evolur didn’t exaggerate with any of the elements when designing the crib.
The Evolur Waverly is a sturdy convertible crib, which is designed to work effortlessly throughout the years!
A rustic charm:
Simmons Kids SlumberTime Paloma 4-in-1 convertible baby crib
Why we love it:
If you like full-panel headboards, the Simmons Kids SlumberTime Paloma crib is the one you have to consider. It is a popular convertible crib and definitely one of my favorites too!
The Paloma 4-in-1 convertible crib is built to last! It grows from newborn, through toddler age, to teenage and above. I like its stable and sturdy wood construction! The Paloma will stay strong during conversions and won’t wobble after them. As such, it can easily be a lifetime bed for your child, which is great if you intend to keep farmhouse style in the future too.
The crib is available only in two finishes, which might sound disappointing, but …. both colors are perfect for farmhouse furniture, and I do not see a reason why you wouldn’t choose one of them. The finish is also hand-distressed and finished by visible woodgrain, adding the warmth needed for a modern farmhouse crib.
The Simmons Kids SlumberTime Paloma is a beautiful, cozy, and highly functional convertible crib that makes a great focal point in any nursery.
Best modern farmhouse style:
Dream On Me Cape Cod 5-in-1 convertible crib
Why we love it:
The Dream On Me Cape Cod crib offers a slender modish trendy style that matches modern farmhouse nurseries.
The biggest Dream On Me Cape Cod crib’s advantage over the first two farmhouse cribs is its lower price and broader color selection. It is available in several stylish finishes, but for a farmhouse nursery, I would choose only between Pebble Grey, Storm Grey, and White.
The Dream On Me Cape Cod crib has a full-back panel with detailed molding and horizontal lines. However, it doesn’t have an unfinished, weathered, or worn look, which would further add to its farmhouse appearance.
Anyway, the crib is simple but elegant and highly functional. It converts all the way to the full-size adult bed and possesses four mattress height positions, so one more than the first two cribs on the list.
Best budget buy:
Delta Children Fancy 4-in-1 convertible baby crib
Why we love it:
The Delta Children Fancy crib meets or exceeds all safety standards set by the CPSC and ASTM. So it is a safe crib, like other farmhouse cribs on this list! It is also GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning it doesn’t pollute indoor air and, as such, contributes to a healthier home for your baby.
It is a 4-in-1 convertible crib, which will grow with your child from newborn to adulthood.
As for the farmhouse style, the Delta Children Fancy crib doesn’t have that extra rustic charm seen on the first two cribs on this list. Its finishes are more like on the Dream On Me Cape Cod 5-in-1 convertible crib above. However, for the price you are paying, you get a durable and quality crib. It is also highly functional and serves its purpose well.
Million Dollar Baby Classic Emory farmhouse 3-in-1 convertible crib
Why we love it:
I have added this crib because of its unique construction, which I like a lot.
As you can see, it has an open back and front rail, but there are two raised full-panel sideboards instead. I love it, especially the thoughtful x-brace details on them. In my opinion, all-together adds a fabulous rustic character to the crib.
Such construction doesn’t allow conversion into a full-size bed. The Emory is a convertible crib, but it converts only in a toddler bed and daybed. Usually, that’s perfectly enough, but some parents want a lifetime bed for their child. In such a case, you have to pick another crib.
The Million Dollar Baby Classic Emory farmhouse crib is available only in a Driftwood finish. I admit it was a minor disappointment, but I quickly realized it is there for a reason. First of all, it is a perfect finish for a farmhouse-style nursery. And second, the finish is textured, which further emphasizes the distinctive feeling of warmth and comfort of this style.
Best Bell-Shaped Farmhouse Cribs:
Evolur Belmar Curve 5-in-1 Convertible Crib
Why we love it:
If you like bell-shaped cribs, this is the one you should consider.
Some claim the Evolur Belmar crib is inspired by the sea, sailing, and beaches, others consider it a perfect farmhouse crib. Well, everyone is right!
These styles are similar in many elements, and both focus primarily on the wood of worn look, shiplap, simplicity, and functionality. I love how its ship-lap details highlight the headboard and blend seamlessly with clean lines for a touch of a modern feel.
Evolur does not exaggerate with the color selection, but all three available finishes fit perfectly into a farmhouse-style nursery, so I don’t miss a broader color selection at all.
Everything on the Belmar crib is carefully planned. It has a simple design, yet it is so much more than an ordinary crib. And most importantly, it is a safe crib of high quality, highly functional, and designed to work effortlessly throughout the years.
Oh … if you like the Evolur Belmar crib design, but you can’t decide for its curves, you can opt for a flat top Evolur Belmar too!
Forever Eclectic Hampton curve-top 4-in-1 convertible baby crib
Why we love it:
The Forever Eclectic Hampton is a little less known crib with a high potential to become one of the best-selling farmhouse cribs on the market.
Its back panel holds a beautiful shiplap design with a soft arch on the top. But that is not all!
You can opt between three different headboard styles, which gives the Hampton crib great diversity. You can decide on this one, so for the crib with a unique gently curved headboard, a Hampton crib with a more prominent arch-top, or one with a flat top.
I consider the Forever Eclectic Hampton a simple, minimalistic farmhouse crib, perfect for those who like clean, uncluttered space.
The Forever Eclectic Hampton offers a charming, timeless design that comes in three trendy neutral finishes. The finishes are not textured, so they do not create an additional rustic feel, but all of them are suitable for a farmhouse-style nursery!
Best Budget Buy:
Delta Children Archer solid-panel 4-in-1 convertible baby crib
Why we love it:
The Delta Children Archer 4-in-1 convertible crib is an option for those who want a nicely equipped farmhouse nursery but do not want to spend too much on it.
If you are tight on budget, you can opt for even less expensive cribs, such as Union convertible crib. However, amongst farmhouse cribs, purchasing the Archer is one of the best crib deals you can make.
I like that the crib offers the same features as high-budget models, but for less money. It possesses farmhouse elements, such as shiplap, simple but highly functional design, minimalistic look, and quality finishes.
The wood does not have a distinctive worn look, yet the Delta Children Archer 4-in-1 convertible crib fits perfectly into a farmhouse nursery.
Best Storage Cribs for a Farmhouse Nursery:
Spacious under-crib drawer:
Graco Hadley 4-in-1 convertible crib with drawer
Why we love it:
Do you need extra storage space? Then take a close look at this crib where Graco used otherwise unutilized space under the crib for a handy purpose.
The Graco Hadley is a 4-in-1 convertible crib, which accommodates your growing child and gives you much-needed extra storage space.
I love how well Graco incorporated a trundle drawer under the Hadley crib. The drawer is spacious and takes up the whole area under the crib mattress. An extra advantage of this design is that filled space also prevents dust accumulation under the crib.
And the best part about this crib? It is very affordable! It is actually one of the cheapest quality farmhouse cribs. Given that you do not get only a crib but also a handy drawer, the Graco Hadley 4-in-1 convertible crib with drawer is definitely worth your consideration!
Lots of storage space:
Storkcraft Steveston 4-in-1 convertible crib and changer with drawer
Why we love it:
The Storkcraft Steveston is perfect for modern parents who enjoy cozy farmhouse style.
A bell-shaped full panel headboard and vertically mounted planks give the crib a typical modern farmhouse look. As such, the Storkcraft Steveston convertible crib blends perfectly either with modern or rustic decor.
Although it is bigger than other best farmhouse cribs on the list, it is actually a space-saving crib. That is because of its attached changing table. A crib with an attached changer takes less space than a separately placed crib and changing table!
But that is not all! The crib has even a large drawer underneath the whole mattress’s area.
I like its simple design that, on the other hand, offers a lot! Deciding on this crib, you will get everything at once, a crib that grows with your child, changing table, shelves, and a storage drawer.
Best Farmhouse Mini Cribs in 2023:
Best Mini choice:
DaVinci Autumn 4-in-1 convertible mini crib
Why we love it:
The DaVinci Autumn mini crib will bring a farm-fresh look to your home! Its style is a perfect blend of modern and rustic, meaning it is clean but yet homely and cozy.
If you are tight with space and like farmhouse style, this mini convertible crib might be perfect for you.
The DaVinci Autumn mini crib is one of the newest DaVinci models that quickly won many hearts. To me, that is not a surprise. After all, it is a mini copy of an already extremely popular full-size Autumn crib.
You are buying a well-tested model, only in smaller dimensions!
Dream On Me Ava 3-in-1 convertible mini crib
Why we love it:
The Dream On Me Ava is a chicky and functional small nursery solution, which goes hand-in-hand with farmhouse style. It features a solid headboard with vertical routing planks and bold finishes on a straight frame.
The Dream On Me Ava is a 3-in-1 convertible mini crib. As such, it grows with your child from a mini crib into a mini daybed and twin-size bed with an optional footboard.
Why am I emphasizing this? Because I want to point out that the crib doesn’t convert into a toddler bed! Another thing is the confusion around the crib’s name. Some call it a 4-in-1 convertible crib, which is not! The extra number is sometimes there only because of two variations for a twin-size bed.
As for quality, safety, usability, and design, however, I have only compliments! Oh, and I love its color selection with unique finishes, such as Blush Pink and Olive.
Dream On Me Bellport 4-in-1 convertible mini crib
Why we love it:
Bellport is another mini crib from Dream On Me that fits perfectly into the farmhouse nursery.
In terms of functionality, it is the same as the Dream On Me Ava I described above. This crib also converts into two beds only. It transits into a mini daybed and a twin-size bed with an optional footboard. As such, it can be easily called a 3-in-1 crib. Both cribs also possess the same mattress support, which is adjustable to three heights.
The Dream On Me Bellport provides a slender modish trendy style that matches the contemporary or rustic decor. And those who cherish farmhouse style will appreciate its full panel back with a cute shiplap.
And another similarity to the Ava, it is also available in slightly different finishes (Light Seafoam Green and Safari Green).
Mattress for your new farmhouse crib
You have a most beautiful, practical, and safe crib in your beloved farmhouse style. However, without a mattress, it is pretty much useless.
Many parents spend a lot of time searching for a perfect crib, while they do not devote enough time to find the best mattress for their crib. Yet choosing a safe and fitted crib mattress is just as important as purchasing a crib!
So I want to share few tips on how to buy the right mattress for any crib. But if you want to know more, you can also read our Crib mattress buying guide or check out Top-rated baby crib mattresses here.
Things to consider when buying a crib mattress
1. Tight-fitting crib mattress:
You have to buy a crib mattress that fits perfectly into your crib, meaning you need a standard-size crib mattress for a full-size crib or a mini model for a mini crib.
If you buy a full-size farmhouse crib, your job is a little easier. Your choice is also broader and more diverse. Why? The inner measurements of full-size cribs and standard crib mattresses are regulated by the government so that any crib mattress fits into any crib.
U.S. regulations define:
- a standard size crib is a baby crib with the following measurements: 52 3⁄8 ± 5⁄8 inches in length by 28 ± 5⁄8 inches in width
- a standard crib mattress is a baby crib mattress with the following measurements: at least 27 1/4 inches by 51 5/8 inches and no more than 6 inches thick
On the contrary, the government does not regulate mini crib measurements. So always check twice if you are buying the mini crib mattress that fits snuggly into your mini crib!
Nevertheless, most mini cribs have inner dimensions around 38 inches by 24 inches, which correspond to most mini crib mattresses on the market.
One of the most important things you should consider when buying a crib mattress is sufficient firmness! A firm crib mattress is much safer than a soft and fluffy one!
Firmness prevents sinking into the mattress! If the baby rolls onto the belly, it won’t contour to her face and increase the risk of suffocation!
Because it offers enough support to push up, the firmness also promotes the baby’s muscle and bone development!
3. Mattress’s core:
You can choose between a foam or innerspring (coil) crib mattress.
The choice of material depends on your personal preference. As long as you pick a quality model, both types are excellent, offering good support and durability.
4. If it’s possible, buy new!
If you can afford it, buy a new crib mattress! An affordable, but new baby crib mattress, is often much better than an expensive second-hand model.
A used crib mattress is might not as firm anymore. Also, you do not know what is going on inside of it. Poor handling may cause mold, mildew, bacteria, or fungus formation in the mattress’s core.
Don’t settle for low quality! There are quality crib mattresses in all price ranges, you only have to find them! Or check up our list with top models.
5. Dual-sided baby crib mattress:
Dual-sided crib mattresses (also called dual-firmness or convertible crib mattresses) are a handy choice for convertible cribs. Such a mattress has two sides of different firmness, a firm side for babies and a softer side for toddlers.
When you convert your crib into a toddler bed, also flip the mattress on a softer side. Wola, you have a perfect combination for your toddler. A new mattress without any additional costs!
A breathable crib mattress with sufficient airflow through its core is a must. Such a crib mattress cools down faster and prevents overheating. A breathable crib mattress also drys quicker and, as such, prevents mold formation in its core.
7. Safety standards:
Crib mattresses must meet strict safety standards set by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials).
Manufacturers are also required to reveal all the materials used for the mattress, so do not buy it if you can’t find these data.
What is Farmhouse Style?
Farmhouse style is relaxed, comfortable, and laid-back interior design style. It is a practical and simple style known for its coziness and warmth.
The modern farmhouse style has become very popular in the last few years, but it has been around for years. Meaning rustic, primitive, farmhouse, and country styles are the same in their fundamental principles.
Today’s modern-farmhouse style, unlike past renditions, nicely balances old and new and does not exaggerate with any of it. Farmhouse-style rooms are also not stuffy or formal at all.
- Modern farmhouse is less cluttered and more minimalistic, where warmth and comfort meet modern design.
- French country farmhouse is classy and romantic, more like old rustic style.
- Industrial farmhouse obtains farmhouse elements while emphasizing repurposed commercial pieces.
Elements of Farmhouse Style Decor:
A modern farmhouse nursery is usually pretty big, but most of all, it is practical and functional! Practicality is a dominant element of farmhouse style, after all, it origin from times when people used whatever was handy and useful.
Farmhouse furniture tends to be simple, with clean and sleek lines, focusing more on functionality than decoration.
2. Neutral Color Palette:
Farmhouse color palettes are simple and natural, including warm neutrals, cool neutrals, earth tones, or natural blues and greens. But the most common color combination in modern farmhouse-looking homes is white/wood finish.
Multiple wood finishes are those that add visual interest to farmhouse homes. However, you’ll want to try incorporating a variety of other textures too.
Materials such as canvas upholstery, metal accents, grain sacks, linen, chunky knits will add warmth and depth to the room.
4. Natural Wood :
A modern farmhouse room must have at least one piece of wooden furniture in an unfinished, weathered, or worn look. That is a central element in farmhouse decor!
Shiplap style goes hand-in-hand with farmhouse decor. These are long horizontal or vertical planks on furniture, or they are mounted on the wall and normally painted white. It is also characterized by a small gap between the planks, which gives the shiplap its distinctive appearance.
Now you have a safe crib and a firm, tight-fitting mattress. Is there anything else you have to consider?
In fact, now, all you need for your baby’s safe sleep is only a tight-fitting mattress sheet and sleep clothes. Yes, it is that simple! You do not need crib bumpers, blankets, sleep positioners, etc.
Ensuring the baby’s safe sleep actually means keeping it simple!
How to use a crib safely?
- Do NOT put pillows, blankets, sheepskins, plush toys, and other comforters in the crib. Those things heighten the risk of suffocation.
- It is better NOT to use position devices, however, if you do use them, use them carefully and strictly follow the provided instructions.
- It is better NOT to use crib bumpers, however, if you do use them, use breathable materials, which fit firmly around the crib.
- The cord from the baby monitor shouldn’t be close to the crib.
- Keep the crib away from things your baby can pull down when she gets older.
- Keep the crib away from the window!
- It is recommended to check the crib for loose or broken screws, bolts, and mattress support regularly.
- Always place your baby in the crib on her back!
- Never place your baby to sleep without removing bibs and necklaces from her neck.
- For the first six months, your bedroom is the best and safest place for the crib.
- Keep a smoke-free zone around your baby. Not just for sleeping, always!
- Do not over-clothe your baby!
