The Best convertible cribs of 2020

Choosing the right baby equipment can be quite difficult, especially if you don’t have any experience yet. We all want only the best for our children, but most of us are limited by the budget. That’s why the models in our list are not just the best convertible cribs in 2020 you can choose, but more or less friendly to your wallet as well.

Since babies spend a lot of time sleeping, choosing a safe and comfortable baby crib is extremely important. All models on our list are completely accordant with that!

Before you start, I want to reassure you, that convertible cribs on our list, don’t lag behind high budget models at all. I am not saying that our choices are cheap, I am just comparing them with $ 1000+ convertible cribs.

The funny thing is that high budget cribs didn’t get more points after our reviews. Not only they get fewer points because of the price, but we also can’t say they are more comfortable or appealing from convertible models on our “best of” list.

Comparing the price to their features, convertible baby cribs on our list have the best value for the money!

Baby’s Little Place tip: If you already know you will convert the crib into one or more bigger models, buy the conversion kit at the same time as a crib.

There are more reasons for that:

  1. You might get a discount if you buy all at once.
  2. The conversion kit may not be in stock when you need it.
  3. You will have it at hand when the time for conversion comes.

The best convertible crib of 2020:

Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 convertible crib

Babyletto Hudson is a European style crib. It is a modern and eco-friendly crib, which offers great versatility to the family.

Yes, Hudson costs little more than other convertible cribs on our list (except the Harlow, which is an acrylic crib). But, if you are on the market for the high quality and beautiful convertible crib, this is the one you have to consider.

And that is not all! The great thing about Babyletto cribs is that you get everything in the package, and Hudson is not an exception. So, if you add up the additional costs for conversion kits, other baby cribs on the list are no longer cheaper than Hudson.

Best convertible crib: Babyletto Hudson

THE GOOD:

  • eco-conscious design for modern moms
  • retro modern look, with rounded spindles around the crib
  • it grows with your child
  • safety guardrail for a toddler bed is included in the price
  • beautiful non-toxic finish, available in multiple colors
  • 4 level adjustable mattress support
  • sturdy crib, with solid wood construction
  • very durable
  • meets and even exceed all required safety standards
  • assembling and conversions are easy and quick

THE BAD:

  • if you use light-colored models, you can see metal mattress support in some positions, but you can efficiently hide it with a beautiful crib skirt
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

Hudson is a 3-in-1 convertible crib, which means it can convert into two bigger beds. When your child outgrows the crib, you can convert it into a toddler bed.

As I already mentioned, it is a toddler safety guardrail included in the package. That saves you the trouble of finding a suitable one and gives an added value to the Hudson baby crib.

When your toddler doesn’t need a safety guardrail anymore, you can further convert it into a daybed. Conversion is easy and quick. All you have to do is removing the toddler rail and set the mattress into the lower position.

  • stop using Babyletto Hudson as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds
What else makes Babyletto Hudson the best convertible crib?

Babyletto Hudson is an excellent choice for short moms!

Hudson is a low profile crib, and as such perfect for short moms. Don’t worry, its rails are not shorter from other convertible cribs. Its low profile is the result of careful design, with shorter legs and a sleek framework.

As the crib is not bulky, petite moms won’t have problems placing their sleeping baby over the rail into the crib.

Babyletto Hudson is actually a 4-in-1 convertible crib!

Babyletto offers a Junior conversion kit for the Hudson, so you can convert it even into a junior bed.

Babyletto Hudson or Babyletto Lolly?

At this point I want to mention another great model from Babyletto: Lolly 3-in-1 convertible crib is slightly younger but as good as Hudson. Since they are practically the same, we haven’t included Lolly on this list, but it certainly belongs amongst the best convertible cribs in 2020.

Best convertible crib with an arch:

Graco Benton 4-in-1 convertible crib

I love Benton’s sleek, minimalistic design. It is an arched designed convertible crib that doesn’t occupy a lot of space. That is very convenient for many of us, especially for those who live in smaller apartments.

Another good thing about Benton is the backside of the crib. It is not closed like on majority arched designed cribs. That makes the crib open and airy, which is excellent. We were also surprised how strong and sturdy is Benton. Not just as a crib, but after all conversions too.

Oh, and last but not least, the crib is affordable! You will get a quality and durable convertible crib for less $200! Isn’t that great?

Best convertible crib with an arch: Graco Benton

THE GOOD:

  • it is a lifetime crib for your child
  • it has an incredibly low price for the quality you get
  • it is a great solution for smaller nurseries or twin rooms
  • adjustable mattress support
  • it stays sturdy after all conversions
  • it has a minimalists, elegant and timeless design
  • easy to assemble
  • easy to convert
  • meets and even exceed all required safety standards

THE BAD:

  • we were trying really hard, but couldn’t find any bad thing about Benton
  • maybe I can mention only a few visible holes from the screws, but that is the same with almost all cribs, including high budget models
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

Graco Benton is a 4-in-1 convertible crib, which can convert into a toddler bed, daybed, and a full-size adult bed with a headboard.

By removing the front rail of the crib and placing the mattress to the lowest position, you get a sturdy toddler bed, which is unfortunately without a safety guardrail.

If you don’t feel comfortable using it without a guardrail, Graco didn’t leave you empty-handed. The crib is designed to match with universal Graco toddler guardrail, but you have to buy it separately.

However, the guardrail is not expensive, so even with that additional purchase, the price remains low.

For converting the Benton into a daybed, you need to remove the toddler guardrail and set the mattress into a higher position.

If you want a full-size bed, you have to buy the Graco’s full-size conversion kit and a fitted mattress.

Yes, you have to buy a toddler safety guardrail separately, but this is common for convertible cribs, so we don’t see that as a down point.
I would decide on a safety guardrail as it is not expensive at all and offers additional safeness to my child. But this is my personal opinion. It’s OK in both ways.

  • stop using Graco Benton as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the maximum recommended weight limit for a daybed/toddler bed is 50 pounds
  • the weight limit for a full-size bed will depend on the metal bed frame you will purchase

Best convertible crib with storage drawer:

Graco Solano 4-in-1 convertible crib with drawer

Solano is another Graco’s convertible crib. As it is typical for Graco’s cribs, it has a sleek, minimalistic design, with a distinctive arch on the back.

Graco Solano is a very versatile convertible crib. You can buy it in three different versions:

A first Solano crib didn’t impress us much. But for new Solano models, Graco focused mainly on the effective use of space. I don’t know for you, but I’m always short of space, so I find the additional drawer under the crib very handy.

I was impressed by the fact of how many baby belongings you can store in that drawer! Storage drawer underneath the baby crib is a really effective use of space, which would be otherwise unutilized.

To make the Solano even more versatile, Graco added even a combo model. That is a convertible crib with an attached changing table. But I won’t talk about it here, because Storkcraft Portofino won the title of the best combo crib here. You can find its description below!

Best convertible crib with storage drawer

THE GOOD:

  • it grows with your child
  • a spacious drawer under the entire baby crib
  • low price
  • adjustable mattress support
  • timeless design
  • easy to assemble
  • easy to convert
  • meets and even exceed all required safety standards

THE BAD:

  • check up the crib’s parts before the assembling, as some parents reported they had chips in the wood when they got it
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

Graco Solano converts to multiple sizes to grow with your child. Its toddler bed can be with or without a safety guardrail, which is sold separately.

I know it is an additional cost, but from my experiences, I would buy it. It doesn’t cost much, and it will surely prevent accidents.

For added versatility, Solano converts into a daybed. Conversion into a daybed is quick and easy. If your child uses the Solano toddle bed without the guardrail, just set the mattress to its lower position, otherwise remove the guardrail too.

If you decided to convert it into a full-size bed, will Solano last well into adolescence. The front and backside of the crib become a beautiful headboard and footboard, but you have to buy the mattress and Graco full-size crib metal bed frame conversion kit.

  • stop using Graco Solano as a crib when your child begins to climb or surpasses the height of 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

Best convertible crib with changer:

Storkcraft Portofino convertible crib and changer

If you don’t have enough space for a separately placed convertible crib and changing table, a full-size convertible crib like Portofino might be the best choice for you.

Such a crib is a space and money saver. Yes, combo crib cost more than classic baby cribs, but less than a combined price of a separately placed convertible crib and changing table.

If we compare the price, design, and features, Storkcraft Portofino offers the most amongst combo crib. It has an aesthetic, timeless design, with a spacious changing table comparing to other combo cribs.

Best convertible crib with changing table: Storkcraft Portofino

THE GOOD:

  • one piece of furniture for multiple uses
  • space saving model
  • it grows with your child
  • convertible crib
  • attached changer with three drawers and three shelves on the back
  • a safe crib
  • detached changer can be transformed into a nightstand
  • adjustable mattress support
  • it meets or even exceeds all required safety standards

THE BAD:

  • a higher price as a standard convertible crib, but it has integrated changing table
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

Storkcraft Portofino converts into:

  1. toddler bed
  2. daybed
  3. full-size adult bed

Conversions are the same as conversions of standard convertible cribs.

You can convert the Portofino into a toddler bed, but you have to buy Storkcraft toddler guardrail separately. That is common to all convertible cribs, and it will cost you around $40 in this case.

Later you can transform the crib into a daybed without any additional purchase.

The changing table stays attached to a toddler bed and daybed. Even if you don’t use it as a changer anymore, it is a convenient storage space for the child’s belongings.

You can convert Storkcraft Portofino into a full-size bed. Of course, you have to buy s a metal bed frame, which connects the headboard and footboard, and adult mattress.

  • stop using Storkcraft Portofino as a crib when your baby reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

More about changing table:

Storkcraft Portofino’s changing table includes three roomy drawers in the front and three open shelves on the back. It is attached to the right side of the crib and has an included waterproof vinyl change pad.

The coolest thing is its convenience as it grows with your child. At first, it serves you like a classic changing table with additional storage for baby belongings.

But if you decide for the final conversion into a full-size bed, you can use it as a nightstand beside the bed. A detached changer transforms into a stand-alone nightstand. Isn’t that great?

The cheapest convertible crib:

Union 3-in-1 convertible crib

The Union crib is made by DaVinci, which is one of the leading baby crib manufacturers.

The Union is a simple yet elegant convertible crib. It has clean lines and a wide color selection, including unique colors like Lagoon or Sunshine.

Although it costs just over $100, it has all the essential features. It is made of New Zealand pine wood, non-toxic, lead and phthalate safe. As such, the crib meets all required ASTM international and U.S. CPSC safety standards.

The crib has a basic, lightweight minimalist frame, but we didn’t notice any wobbling, which is great!

The cheapest convertible baby crib

THE GOOD:

  • really good value for the price
  • a wide color selection
  • it grows with your child
  • perfect choice for short moms
  • an affordable price
  • adjustable mattress support
  • the lightweight of the crib
  • meets all required safety standards

THE BAD:

  • Union has few visible holes and screws
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

The Union crib converts to a day bed and toddler bed with a safety guardrail sold separately.

By removing the guardrail and setting the mattress into the lowest position, you can later convert it into a daybed.

  • stop using Union as a crib when your baby reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

Best acrylic convertible crib:

Babyletto Harlow 3-in-1 convertible crib

Babyletto Harlow is an ultra-modern acrylic convertible crib. Actually, it is not made only of acryl, but that makes it even better!

In my opinion, all-acrylic cribs don’t represent a warm, cozy nest to the baby. Like they would sleep in a shop-window. No, for me!

Babyletto Harlow features a perfect blend of wood and acryl. So, it is still an ultra-modern crib, but with a touch of ease and comfort that only wood can offer.

Because it is not made only from the acryl, it is also cheaper. Yes, it costs more than other convertible cribs on our “best of” list, but a lot less than other similar baby cribs.

Best acrylic convertible crib

THE GOOD:

  • a unique convertible crib
  • unobstructed view on your baby
  • a clear acryl
  • acryl doesn’t yellow over time
  • it grows with your child
  • toddler bed safety guardrail is included
  • ultra-modern design
  • Eco-friendly
  • 4 adjustable mattress positions
  • it meets all safety standards
  • affordable for an acrylic crib

THE BAD:

  • it has a higher price from “ordinary” wooden convertible cribs
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

Babyletto Harlow converts into a toddler bed and daybed. Conversions are quick and easy, just follow the provided instructions!

A safety guardrail for a toddler bed is in the package! That reduces the total price, and spare you trouble with searching a compatible one. It is made of wood, but that doesn’t mean you will be left with a wooden toddler bed.

Replace the wooden side of the crib and turn it ower. That is how you get a beautiful toddler bed with acrylic back and a wooden guardrail on the front.

You get a Harlow’s daybed, by removing the safety guardrail and setting the mattress into the lowest position.

  • stop using Babyletto Harlow as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

Best vintage convertible crib:

DaVinci Jenny Lind 3-in-1 convertible crib

An award-winning vintage-inspired Jenny Lind crib is consistently recognized as one of the best cribs in the market.

With Jenny, DaVinci brought vintage-inspired charm to the nursery, and we love it!

It is not a secret that Jenny Lind is a unique convertible crib that immediately caught our attention. First of all, it has a vintage design. Second, it has the widest color selection we have ever seen. Besides ordinary colors, like espresso, black, grey, etc., you can get it in fun colors like emerald, lagoon, or blush pink. And that is not everything that makes it unique.

DaVinci Jenny Lind stands on caster wheels. As such, it is also classified as a portable crib. Yes, you won’t travel with the crib. But because of the wheels, and sleek, lightweight design, you can effortlessly move it around your house. Wheels glide smoothly and have a good locking mechanism that will hold the crib in place while the child is in it.

DaVinci’s Jenny Lind is one of the most wanted cribs by parents, and we can see why. The quality is astonishing, and it is also safe and sturdy, although it stands on wheels.

How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

DaVinci Jenny Lind is one of the few full-size, convertible cribs that stands on wheels.

It can convert into a toddler bed and daybed. The safety guardrail is not included in the price. It costs $79, so is not the cheapest guardrail on the market, but it’s far from the most expensive ones too!

  • stop using DaVinci Jenny Lind as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

Best folding convertible crib:

Babyletto Maki portable, folding convertible crib

Babyletto Maki is another convertible crib on wheels. It is not available in so many colors as Jenny Lind above, but it has something else. It is also foldable!

There are not much quality full-size cribs on wheels, let alone foldable ones. In fact, this is the best full-size portable crib you can buy!

Maki’s wheels are optional, which makes the crib even more versatile. There is no need to install them on the crib if you don’t want to. But you will get them with the crib without any additional costs!

Wheels glide smoothly and have a reliable locking mechanism. When they are locked down, the crib stays in the place.

Maki has a folding framework, with solid mattress support. The crib folds very easily. Folding steps include removing the baseboard from the crib’s frame, sliding it down on the back panel, and folding up altogether.

When your child outgrows the crib, you can convert it into a beautiful toddler bed, with or without wheels. Same as with all Babyletto cribs, you will get a toddler safety guardrail included in the price. That adds an additional value to all Babyletto’s cribs.

Conversion into a toddler bed is simple and hassle-free. All you have to do is removing the crib’s front rail, place the mattress support into the lowest setting, and place a toddler safety guardrail on the front side.

  • stop using Babyletto Maki as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the recommended weight limit for toddler and daybed stage: 50 pounds

Best mini convertible crib:

Dream On Me Aden 4-in-1 mini convertible crib

Mini convertible cribs are as good as full-size models. If you live in a small apartment, it is a mini convertible crib the best solution for you!

Yes, it has smaller dimensions, and your child will outgrow it sooner. But if you don’t have enough space for a full-size crib, it is the mini crib the best choice you can make!

A mini convertible crib like Dream On Me Aden will grow with your child and convert all the way to a twin size bed.

Best mini convertible crib

THE GOOD:

  • perfect for smaller apartments
  • perfect for grandparents house
  • grows with your child
  • adjustable mattress support
  • two different designs for the last conversion
  • available in many colors
  • sturdy crib
  • meets all required safety standards

THE BAD:

  • your baby will outgrow it sooner than a full-size convertible crib
CONVERTIBILITY:
How long can my child use a certain crib/bed stage?

You might wonder why Aden is a 4-in-1 convertible crib if it skips a toddler bed phase. That is because a twin bed has two possible designs, with or without a footboard.

Until the last conversion, is everything included, but you have to buy a Twin Size Rail for the conversion into a twin bed.

Aden conversions:

  • crib
  • daybed
  • twin bed with footboard
  • twin bed without a footboard
  • stop using Dream On Me Aden as a crib when your child begins to climb or reaches 35 inches
  • the child weight limit for a daybed: 40 lbs

Important things you should know about mini convertible cribs, including Aden:

  1. The mini crib’s height is the same as the full-size cribs, so your baby can’t climb out of the crib sooner.
  2. Mini cribs are as safe as their bigger sisters.
  3. Mini cribs skip toddler bed and convert directly into a daybed.
  4. Mini cribs can convert all to the twin bed, so your child can use them until adolescence as well.

Frequent questions about the best convertible cribs in 2020

Is a convertible crib worth the money?

Yes, it is, without a doubt! Here are the reasons, why is a convertible crib better than a classic non-convertible crib:

  • The assortment of convertible cribs is much wider from classic non-convertible cribs.
  • If you think that a non-convertible crib costs less, you are wrong!
  • With a convertible crib, you have an option. If you don’t want, you don’t have to convert it. As I already said, you won’t spend more money on it.
  • You can always convert it back into a crib if you need it again, for instance, for a second child.
  • Your baby can surprise you and suddenly climb out of the crib. When this happens, the crib is no longer safe for him. If you have a convertible model, you can transform the crib into a toddler bed right away.

What about dropping side cribs?

No, no and no! They are not safe!

CSPC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) banned the sale of those cribs back in 2011.

There were numerous injuries and even death, so if you have an older drop-side crib at home, please do NOT use it. It’s not worth the risk!

You can read more about Baby crib safety standards HERE.

Which one is better, a mini or a full-size convertible crib?

Choosing the crib size depends on the available space you have for the crib. Mini convertible cribs are as good as full-size models, but there are some differences amongst them.

  1. Mini convertible cribs take less space, that is why they are a perfect solution for urban lofts, grandparents’ house, or twin rooms.
  2. Your baby will outgrow mini crib sooner as a full-size crib.
  3. Mini convertible cribs don’t have a toddler safety guardrail.
  4. You need a small crib mattress for a mini, and standard crib mattress for a full-size convertible crib.

Mini cribs have a shorter depth and length, while the height of the crib is equal to a full-size crib. That is why your child won’t climb out from a mini crib sooner than from a full-size model. They are both safe!

If you don’t have enough space for a full-size convertible crib, a mini model is definitely the best solution for you.

Mini cribs are a better alternative for bassinets. They are safer, sturdier, and your child can use it longer than bassinets.

But if you have enough space, we recommend a full-size convertible crib. There is no noticeable difference in price, and your child can use it longer than a mini crib.

Why would I decide on a convertible crib with a changing table?

Before I answer this question, I must resolve the possible confusion.

1. You can find convertible cribs with changing table under several names, which often makes a confusion. These are all the same model of the crib:

  • convertible crib with changing table
  • combo crib
  • multipurpose crib
  • multifunctional crib

2. A convertible crib is one piece of furniture, meant for multiple purposes. On the one side of the crib is an attached changing table, which you can later detach and use as a convenient nightstand beside a full-size bed.

3. You can find it in both sizes, like a mini or a full-size combo crib.

So, when to decide on a convertible crib with a changing table?

  1. If you don’t have enough space in a nursery, and you can’t fit a crib and separately placed changing table in the room. Although combo cribs are bigger than classic convertible cribs, they are smaller if you add up measurements of an individually arranged crib and changing table.
  2. Because you really like this concept.
  3. Combo cribs are usually cheaper from the combined price of a crib and changing table.
  4. The only thing you shouldn’t forget is: the surface of the changing table on a combo crib is smaller from a classic changing table.

What else should I know before buying a convertible crib?

  • First of all, the crib must be safe! The best convertible cribs on our list meet or even exceed all safety requirements! If you decide on another model, check-up if it meets all safety standards!
  • Carefully measure the available space for your convertible crib and decide which model is the best for you: a full-size convertible crib, the mini convertible crib, combo convertible crib, or a portable convertible crib.
  • Set the budget for the crib and stick to it!
  • You have to know what a certain number in the crib’s name means. For instance, conversions for 3-in-1 types can differ from model to model. While one model can convert into a toddler bed and daybed, another can skip a daybed and convert directly into a full-size bed, and so on.
  • Find out if a toddler bed has an optional safety guardrail, and if it is included in the price.
  • If the crib converts into a full-size bed, you have to buy a full-size conversion kit for all models and brands separately. Of course, you need a mattress for a full-size bed too.
  • Crib mattresses usually don’t come with the cribs!

  • You’re so correct when you made mention that every parents want the best for their children. Choosing the best convertible cribs is not an easy task especially for new parents and that is one of the reasons I find this post very helpful, informative and useful. I’m particularly excited that they’re friendly to our pockets too.

I love these convertible cribs especially the one with drawers. I’m very sure my lady will love these. I’m really curious Ines, which one of these is your favourite?

  • These cribs are awesome because they can convert into different shapes and provide a change of pace from standard cribs. When I look for a bed I look for a bed that is durable and supports the weight that it holds while staying comfortable. The harlow seems good to me, which one do you like best?

    • Hello!

I like all Babyletto cribs. They have a modern design I love. Of course, I would not decide on such a crib if it wouldn’t be safe and quality. Gues I have the luck that Bebyletto cribs are one of the safest baby cribs on the market and of excellent quality.

I love the Babyletto Harlow, but I would go with Hudson because it is more traditional, the best of the best, and cheaper as well.

      Regards, Ines

  • I totally agree that making a choice as to the right equipments suitable for children’s needs can be a big challenge. There are probably thousands of options to pick from, not to mention the issue of being on a fixed budget. Now, for some, it can be fairly easy to dismiss these budget-friendly choices as inadequate compared to their high end counterparts. But as you pointed out, the high end alternatives are not necessarily more comfy or appealing. From your list, I think I fancy the vintage-inspired Jenny Lind crib.

    Thanks for sharing

    • Hello, Rhain!

DaVinci Jenny Lind is not an ordinary convertible crib, but that’s exactly what makes it so good. With its vintage charm and quality casters, it is absolutely one of the best choices you can make!

Oh, did you see DaVinci Alpha mini rocking crib? It is not a convertible crib, but if you like vintage-inspired cribs, this one is worth to look at too. You can find the crib’s review among the best mini cribs.

I wish you all the best!

  • We sure have come a long way in terms of baby products. I just found out the other day that there is a Kreug version of a baby’s formula, with perfect temperature for the baby! Love it! Thank you so much for your suggestion and a review on each convertible baby cribs 🙂 I have to say that GRACO SOLANO 4-IN-1 CONVERTIBLE CRIB WITH DRAWER caught my attention. I always need more space to store baby stuff. I have to say that for it’s functionality $199 is totally worth it, very affordable.

     Cheers!

    • Hello!

Yeah, convertible cribs with underneath drawer perfectly use otherwise unutilized space under the crib. A drawer under the crib has several advantages:

it is great additional storage for all baby belongingsdust does not accumulate under the cribyour baby can’t hide toys under the crib ( believe me, it’s not fun to crawl under the crib every day)

We have chosen Graco Solano as the best convertible crib with a storage drawer because you get a quality crib for a reasonable price.

If you are interested, we have a whole article about the best convertible cribs with underneath drawers.

  • Hi!

What a great post about the best convertible cribs available. You have provided great reviews and insight into several different types and brands. The layout of your article is so great and easy to read and navigate. Very nicely done.

I am looking for a full-size convertible crib that takes up as little space as possible. Is Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 convertible crib the right choice?

    Thank you for this information.

  • Hi! You have helped me decide which crib suits my needs better. With all these options considered here I feel I’ve picked the best among the best.

When I started reading this post I initially thought of purchasing Union crib. But after giving it more careful thought, I’ve decided the best for me is Graco Benton. Would you consider this the best choice considering price-quality ratio? I’ve also tried to find something negative about it and have not been able.

    • Hello!

Yes, if you intend to convert the crib all the way to the adult bed, is Graco Benton considering the price-quality ratio the best convertible crib you can choose.

You will have to buy a safety guardrail for a toddler bed, and a conversion kit for an adult bed, but the overall price stays very affordable.

By the way, Graco’s cribs are made by Strokcraft, which is one of the leading baby crib manufacturers. Its cribs are safe, durable, and high value amongst parents!

  • Hi Ines, very good and informative article about convertible cribs. I like the fact that you focused on not very high budget products, cause most of us couldn`t afford it. I should ask my girlfriend but cause I`m reading your article I can say that from the list I would choose Delta Children Emery 4 in 1 Convertible Crib. You mentioned dropping side cribs, I really didn`t know they are so dangerous.. Are they still on the market? Very good review, thanks for sharing with us!

    • Hi, Luke!

Yeah, we always tend to include products with reasonable prices in our reviews. It is the fact that most of all can’t afford a convertible crib that cost 1000$ or even more.
And from our experiences, you don’t need them! In a sense of quality, some are even worse than models on our “best of list”. They are not better or safer because of the price, as you are paying for the brand not better quality!
Hey, even Royal baby has Babyletto Hudson convertible crib. 🙂

Selling the drooping side cribs is banned since 2011. Those models shouldn’t be on the market anymore!
But even if they are not on the market anymore, I try to emphasize this as often as I can. Many parents decide on a used baby crib, and they should avoid dropping side cribs.
As you already mention, there are a lot of quality low budget convertible cribs on the market, that are much better from drop-side cribs in a sense of safeness.

  • I have 2 nieces that are both expecting a baby which is how I came across this information, and I really glad that I did. You have really given me the information I needed as I was thinking about buying them a crib to help them get started when their babies are born.

I had no idea that the drop side was no longer recommended. That is very useful information. I was considering one with drop down side.

One niece is short. I noticed the Union 3 in 1 is listed as being good for short moms. Is this just based on the height of it? I ask this because they have a pretty large dog. It is a great dog, but I still worry if it will be able to jump in.

Cribs have really changed since I have had to buy one. i would never have known how the numbers in the name actually can mean a difference in the models. I really want to thank you for the valuable information.

If/when I do decide to purchase a crib, I will definitely come back here.

    • Hello!

Yes, drop-side cribs are banned since 2011. They were great for short moms, but unfortunately, there were too many accidents. You can read more in our article: New baby crib safety standards.

As there are a lot of bulky cribs with huge frames on the market, we always tend to include several low profile cribs on our best of lists too. Short moms really do struggle with placing their sleeping babies over the rails into high cribs.

Although I personally didn’t have such problems, I have lots of friends who made me think about that issue. That’s why I wrote another article with the best cribs for short moms, where you can find more low profile cribs.

Low profile cribs, like Union 3-in-1 convertible crib, or Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 convertible crib are lower because of their shorter legs, not rails. So your baby is as safe as in any other convertible crib, and he won’t “escape” sooner either. Those cribs are as good or even better than lots of convertible cribs, otherwise, we would not place them amongst the best convertible cribs of this year.

But as far as the dog jumping into the low profile convertible crib…. So in theory, this can happen sooner than in higher cribs, but I don’t think it will be a problem. As a dog lover, who is having dogs all my life, I wouldn’t have such concerns. Dogs are very protective to babies and usually treat them as their own, so yeah he will probably lick baby’s face through the crib’s rails if he can, but that’s it. 🙂

You can find more about Union 3-in-1 convertible crib in our review.

      Regards, Ines
