Best Convertible Cribs – Top Picks That Grow With Your Baby

Choosing the right crib is one of the first—and biggest—decisions you’ll make when preparing for your baby. And if you’re anything like most parents, you want something that’s not just safe and comfortable, but also practical in the long run. That’s where convertible cribs come in.

These smart cribs transform as your child grows—starting as a crib and later converting into toddler beds, daybeds, and even full-size beds. That means you can skip the extra expense and stress of buying a new bed every few years.

But with so many styles, features, and price ranges out there, how do you know which one is right for your family? Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to look for in a convertible crib, what types are available, and which models we think stand out in 2025.

Why Convertible Cribs Are So Popular with Parents

Let’s be honest—babies grow fast. One minute, they’re snoozing peacefully in their crib, and the next, they’re ready to climb out of it and take on the world. That’s where the versatility of a convertible crib really shines.

Instead of buying multiple beds over the years, you can invest in a single, versatile piece that grows with your child. And while the initial price may be a bit higher than a standard crib, it saves you money and hassle in the long run. Thus, convertible cribs are considered a more economical and convenient solution.

What Makes a Crib “Convertible”?

In simple terms, a convertible crib is one that changes shape and purpose over time. Depending on the model, a convertible crib might transition into:

  • A toddler bed (sometimes with a guardrail included)
  • A daybed
  • A twin-size or full-size bed

Convertible cribs are usually made from solid wood and built to be stationary. However, there are some convertible cribs that come with wheels for mobility. You can also find stylish options made from acrylic or metal. Some cribs even offer additional features, such as built-in storage or an attached changing table for added convenience.

I’ve included the best examples of each type in our list of top convertible cribs below so you can easily compare and find what fits your needs best.

Types of Convertible Cribs

Not all convertible cribs are created equal. Here’s a quick breakdown of the main types:

  • 2-in-1 cribs: Convert into one additional bed (often a toddler bed).
  • 3-in-1 cribs: Offer two additional conversions (typically toddler bed + daybed).
  • 4-in-1 cribs: The most versatile option—crib, toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed.

💡 Quick tip: Some brands may use these labels a little differently, so it’s always good to double-check exactly what each model offers. Learn more about what a convertible crib is ➔

Why Choose a Convertible Crib in 2025?

  • 💰 Long-Term Value: One purchase lasts for years.
  • 🧩 Space-Saving Solutions: Many cribs now come with built-in storage drawers or changers, maximizing function in smaller nurseries.
  • 🛏️ Mini and Modular Options: 2025 models include versatile designs, such as mini convertibles and modular cribs, that adjust to room layouts or grow with your family.
  • 🌱 Eco-Conscious Choices: Many models now use sustainable materials.
  • 🎨 Design Flexibility: Cribs come in modern, farmhouse, vintage, and minimalist styles to match any nursery.
  • 🛠️ Improved Conversion Kits: More cribs now include toddler rails and easier-to-use conversion systems.
  • Safety First: Modern convertible cribs meet stricter U.S. safety standards, often exceeding basic regulations for added peace of mind.

Best Convertible Cribs of 2025

1. Best Overall Convertible Crib: Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Bed Conversion Kit

Why We Love It:

This crib just does everything right. The Babyletto Hudson blends a clean, modern look with serious functionality. Its rounded spindles and open design make it a stylish pick that works in almost any nursery, whether you’re going for boho, Scandinavian, or minimalist vibes.

It’s built from sustainable New Zealand pine wood, which makes it both sturdy and environmentally conscious. Unlike many cribs that require you to buy the toddler bed conversion kit separately, the Hudson includes it in the box. That’s a big win in our book!

Another parent-approved detail? The low profile and four adjustable mattress heights. It’s super convenient, especially for shorter parents or those recovering postpartum.

Whether you’re buying your first crib or looking to upgrade, the Babyletto Hudson is a safe, stylish, and smart choice. Its unbeatable combination of thoughtful design, quality craftsmanship, and included extras made it our top pick for the best convertible crib of 2025.

📌 Good to Know: Some colors sell out quickly, especially the two-tone ones.

2. Runner-Up: Delta Children Essex 4-in-1 Convertible Crib

The Delta Children Essex 4-in-1 convertible crib with its possible conversions into a toddler bed, a daybed, and a sofa.

Why We Love It:

We picked the Delta Children Essex because it nails that sweet spot between price, beauty, and performance. With its clean lines, angled mid-century legs, and stylish silhouette, this crib brings a modern and charming feel to any nursery. It’s functional, beautiful, and—best of all—affordable.

The Essex is a 4-in-1 design that converts from a crib to a toddler bed, a daybed, and a sofa. However, this 4-in-1 labeling can be a little misleading. Unlike many 4-in-1 cribs that eventually transform into a full-size bed, the Essex does not. Instead, its fourth stage is a sofa bed, which is quite similar to a daybed. While this doesn’t take away from its versatility for the early years, it’s something to be aware of when comparing long-term use.

The crib feels sturdy and well-made, though it’s important to note that you must buy a toddler rail separately. However, even when you add the cost of the toddler rail to the crib’s price, the total is still almost half the cost of the Babyletto Hudson. Considering the Essex’s strong construction, stylish design, and affordability, it remains an excellent investment for budget-savvy parents.

If you want a beautiful crib that offers great value without stretching your nursery budget, the Essex is a wonderful pick.

📌 Good to Know: You’ll need to purchase the toddler rail separately.

3. Best Budget-Friendly Option: Dream On Me Synergy 5-in-1 Convertible Crib

The Dream On Me Synergy 5-in-1 convertible crib with its possible conversions into a toddler bed, a daybed, and a full-size bed.

Why We Love It:

If you’re looking for a safe and versatile crib that won’t break the bank, the Dream On Me Synergy is a smart pick. It offers a good balance of affordability, style, and functionality, making it one of the most popular cribs among parents.

Made from solid pine wood and meeting all U.S. safety standards, it’s a simple, sturdy crib that gets the job done. However, it’s important to understand it’s a budget crib, so it won’t have the same heavy-duty feel or finish as higher-end models.

The Synergy comes in a decent range of colors. While some sources mention 13 finishes, you’ll typically find about seven widely available. Still, it’s nice to have choices, especially if you want something a little different, like their bright Aqua Sky Blue finish.

If you plan to convert it to a toddler bed or full-size bed later, you’ll need to buy the guardrail and conversion kit separately. That’s normal for cribs at this price. The toddler rail costs around $50, so it’s still a very affordable setup. Also, converting it to a daybed doesn’t require any extra parts.

📌 Good to Know: Given its price, the Synergy is a solid pick, but it’s good to set realistic expectations.

4. Best Convertible Crib with Drawer: Graco Hadley 5-in-1 Convertible Crib with Drawer

Graco Hadley 4-in-1 Convertible Crib with Drawer

Why We Love It:

If you need extra storage space, the Graco Hadley might be the perfect fit. The full-width drawer underneath is spacious, split into two equal compartments, and stays functional through the toddler bed and daybed stages.

That under-crib drawer is a lifesaver for parents who want to stash away extra crib sheets, blankets, or baby gear without adding another piece of furniture. It also means fewer dust bunnies and runaway toys under the crib.

As a 5-in-1 convertible crib, the Hadley transitions all the way to a full-size bed, growing alongside your little one. Plus, we’re into its warm, cozy farmhouse style—it brings a homey feel to the nursery without being too rustic.

📌 Good to Know: Like with many convertible cribs in this price range, you’ll need to purchase a separate toddler guardrail and a full-size bed frame when you’re ready to convert the Hadley. It’s similar to models like the Dream On Me Synergy and Delta Children Essex.

📝 Note: If you’re specifically looking for a convertible crib with a drawer for extra storage, we’ve rounded up more great options in our dedicated guide: Best Convertible Cribs With Drawers Underneath.

5. Best Modular Convertible Crib: Babyletto Yuzu 8-in-1 Convertible Crib

The Babyletto Yuzu 8-in-1 convertible crib's transformations: bassinet, midi crib, full-size crib, and junior bed.

Why We Love It:

What we love about the Yuzu is that it balances style with function. Its clean lines, rounded spindles, and low-profile design give it a modern, minimalist feel.

More importantly, the Babyletto Yuzu is all about flexibility. It grows with your baby, going from a bassinet all the way to a junior bed, with eight stages in between. And you can also adjust the mattress height at every stage. This is, along with its low profile, super helpful for your back when you’re lifting your baby in and out of the crib.

Instead of buying several separate pieces over time, you’ve got a full sleep setup from day one. And everything you need in the box, including a toddler bed rail, a 1-inch bassinet pad, and a custom 2-inch midi pad.

Another standout feature is the removable wheels that securely lock into place. Most parents use them during the bassinet and midi stages, then switch to the curved feet later on.

Made from sustainable New Zealand pine and engineered wood, the Yuzu is GREENGUARD Gold certified, meeting high safety and air quality standards.

📌 Good to Know: The midi-size crib isn’t a standard size, but the mattress pad is included, so there’s no need for extra shopping.

6. Best Modern Style: Nestig Wave Crib

The Nestig Wave convertible crib and its transition from a bassinet to the toddler bed.

Why We Love It:

The Nestig Wave crib is a real standout when it comes to design. Its smooth, sculptural shape and modern aesthetic make it perfect for parents who want a crib that makes a statement in the nursery.

The Wave crib is often compared to the Babyletto Yuzu. While the Yuzu focuses on versatility, the Wave wins in style. But Nestig is also a great convertible option. This 3-in-1 crib grows with your child, starting as a mini crib, then converting to a full-size crib, and later into a toddler bed.

The mini crib is a custom size, but Nestig includes a mini mattress to fit, which is a nice touch. Now, if you’re into cribs with legs, this one might not be your thing, as it doesn’t have them. However, you have options: you can either place it directly on the floor or use the included wheels in a mini or full-size crib mode.

The crib is made with sustainably sourced Brazilian pine, finished in non-toxic, VOC-free paints, and GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning it meets high safety and air-quality standards.

📌 Good to Know: The Nestig Wave crib does not include a traditional toddler safety rail. Instead, its raised side panels help prevent children from rolling out of bed, eliminating the need for an additional rail. Plus, the bed is designed to sit low to the ground in a Montessori style, allowing toddlers to get in and out easily on their own.

7. Best Multifunctional Design: Babyletto Maki Portable, Folding Convertible Crib

Babyletto Maki Full-Size Portable Folding Crib with Toddler Bed Conversion Kit

Why we like it:

What makes the Babyletto Maki stand out is its smart combination of features. It’s a 2-in-1 convertible crib that starts as a standard crib and later becomes a toddler bed—which is the most practical conversion for most families. And yes, the toddler safety rail is included, so there’s no need to buy it separately.

But the Maki isn’t just convertible—it’s also portable. It comes with smooth-gliding wheels that you can choose to use or leave off. They lock securely, so the crib stays in place when you want it to. We like having that flexibility—it makes it way easier to move the crib around when needed without giving up on stability.

And here’s the part that really sets it apart: the Maki is a full-size crib that also folds up. That’s pretty rare. The folding feature is a huge plus if you’re tight on space or only need the crib occasionally, like at a grandparent’s house. When it’s not in use, you can just fold it down and store it out of the way.

📌 Good to Know: While the Maki’s folding design is super convenient, it doesn’t fold flat with the mattress inside—you’ll need to remove it first.

8. Best Convertible Crib with Changer: DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer Combo

DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer Combo

Why we like it:

The Kalani is a great pick for parents who want a practical crib that grows with their child and helps save on nursery space. While it’s larger than a standard convertible crib, the built-in changer makes up for it because it replaces the need for a separate changing table. That makes it a smart option for anyone setting up a full nursery in a tighter room or apartment. You get two essential pieces of furniture in one footprint, which really helps when every inch counts.

The attached changing station isn’t just decorative — it’s genuinely functional. It includes a set of drawers and open shelves that are easy to reach during diaper changes. And when you convert the crib into a full-size bed, the changer transitions into a practical nightstand.

Like all DaVinci cribs, the Kalani is made from solid New Zealand pine and meets rigorous safety standards. It’s finished with non-toxic paint and GREENGUARD Gold certified.

All in all, it’s a durable, space-smart crib that takes care of sleep, storage, and changing needs all in one place.

📌 Good to Know: The Kalani crib converts to a toddler bed, daybed, and full-size bed, but you’ll need to buy the toddler rail and full-size bed kit separately. That’s typical for convertible cribs in this price range, but worth keeping in mind when planning your nursery budget.

9. Best Mini Convertible Crib: Graco Teddi 4-in-1 Convertible Mini Crib

Graco Teddi 4-in-1 Convertible Mini Crib with Bonus Water-Resistant Mattress

Why we like it:

If you’re working with limited space, the Teddi offers a ton of function in a small footprint. It’s compact but still gives you long-term use, converting from a mini crib to a daybed and eventually into a twin-size bed—perfect for growing with your baby.

One standout feature? It includes a bonus 2.75-inch thick mini crib mattress with a water-resistant cover. That means you can set it up and start using it right away without having to hunt down a separate mattress.
We also love the thoughtful details like the four adjustable mattress height positions—including a convenient newborn height for easier access in those early days.

Crafted from solid pine and JPMA certified, the Teddi is a reliable, space-saving solution whether you’re outfitting a small nursery, a shared room, or a grandparent’s house. Plus, it’s GREENGUARD Gold certified, meeting strict standards for low chemical emissions and indoor air quality.

📌 Don’t forget: The Teddi is a mini convertible crib, so it’s smaller than standard convertible cribs. That’s great for tight spaces but may feel too compact for some families in the long term. Also, while it does convert to a daybed and twin-size bed, there’s no toddler bed stage with a safety guardrail included in the design.

10. Best Unique Convertible Crib: Ubabub Nifty Clear 3-in-1 Acrylic Crib

Ubabub Nifty Clear 3-in-1 Acrylic Convertible Crib

Why we like it:

If you’re looking for a crib that’s truly different, the Nifty Clear makes a statement in all the right ways. Its modern, mid-century-inspired design pairs beautifully with sleek acrylic sides. That gives your nursery a light, airy look and lets you keep an eye on your baby from just about anywhere in the room.

Those clear panels aren’t just for style, either. They’re laser-cut with tiny star shapes that allow for better airflow while keeping little fingers safe. And yes—babies seem to love gazing out of them too!

Functionally, it’s just as strong as it is stylish. The Nifty Clear grows with your child, converting to both a daybed and a toddler bed, and it includes four adjustable mattress heights to make those first few months easier on your back.

Made with sustainably sourced birch wood and finished with non-toxic materials, it also meets or exceeds all the key safety standards, including GREENGUARD Gold certification for cleaner indoor air.

📌 Good to Know: To convert the Nifty Clear into a toddler bed, you must purchase the toddler bed conversion kit separately. The toddler rail is crafted from wood, so you’ll be swapping out the front acrylic panel for a wooden guardrail. The back acrylic panel stays in place, keeping that signature modern look even after conversion.

11. Best Metal Convertible Crib: Namesake Abigail 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

NAMESAKE Abigail 3-in-1 Convertible Metal Crib

Why we like it:

There’s something special about a metal crib. It brings a sense of history and elegance that wood cribs don’t quite match. The Abigail leans into that vintage charm with its soft curves and traditionally cast joints, giving your nursery a cozy, classic feel without going overboard.

Made from premium steel and finished with a hand-applied powder coating, this crib feels just as sturdy as it looks.

Functionally, it’s just as thoughtful. It grows with your child, converting from a crib to a toddler bed and a daybed. The four mattress height settings make it easier to reach in when your baby is little and adjust as they grow more mobile.

Plus, it’s GREENGUARD Gold certified and finished with non-toxic paint, so you can feel confident about what’s in your baby’s space.

The Namesake Abigail metal convertible crib is a standout pick for parents who want something timeless, durable, and just a little bit different from the usual nursery furniture.

📌 Good to Know: The Abigail easily converts to a toddler bed and daybed, but you’ll need to purchase the toddler bed conversion kit separately. Just something to keep in mind when planning ahead.

  2. You’re so correct when you made mention that every parents want the best for their children. Choosing the best convertible cribs is not an easy task especially for new parents and that is one of the reasons I find this post very helpful, informative and useful. I’m particularly excited that they’re friendly to our pockets too.

I love these convertible cribs especially the one with drawers. I’m very sure my lady will love these. I’m really curious Ines, which one of these is your favourite?

  3. These cribs are awesome because they can convert into different shapes and provide a change of pace from standard cribs. When I look for a bed I look for a bed that is durable and supports the weight that it holds while staying comfortable. The harlow seems good to me, which one do you like best?

    1. Hello!

I like all Babyletto cribs. They have a modern design I love. Of course, I would not decide on such a crib if it wouldn’t be safe and quality. Gues I have the luck that Bebyletto cribs are one of the safest baby cribs on the market and of excellent quality.

I love the Babyletto Harlow, but I would go with Hudson because it is more traditional, the best of the best, and cheaper as well.

      Regards, Ines

  4. I totally agree that making a choice as to the right equipments suitable for children’s needs can be a big challenge. There are probably thousands of options to pick from, not to mention the issue of being on a fixed budget. Now, for some, it can be fairly easy to dismiss these budget-friendly choices as inadequate compared to their high end counterparts. But as you pointed out, the high end alternatives are not necessarily more comfy or appealing. From your list, I think I fancy the vintage-inspired Jenny Lind crib.

    Thanks for sharing

    1. Hello, Rhain!

DaVinci Jenny Lind is not an ordinary convertible crib, but that’s exactly what makes it so good. With its vintage charm and quality casters, it is absolutely one of the best choices you can make!

Oh, did you see DaVinci Alpha mini rocking crib? It is not a convertible crib, but if you like vintage-inspired cribs, this one is worth to look at too. You can find the crib’s review among the best mini cribs.

      Regards, Ines

  5. I have 2 nieces that are both expecting a baby which is how I came across this information, and I really glad that I did. You have really given me the information I needed as I was thinking about buying them a crib to help them get started when their babies are born.

I had no idea that the drop side was no longer recommended. That is very useful information. I was considering one with drop down side.

One niece is short. I noticed the Union 3 in 1 is listed as being good for short moms. Is this just based on the height of it? I ask this because they have a pretty large dog. It is a great dog, but I still worry if it will be able to jump in.

Cribs have really changed since I have had to buy one. i would never have known how the numbers in the name actually can mean a difference in the models. I really want to thank you for the valuable information.

If/when I do decide to purchase a crib, I will definitely come back here.

    Lee Ann

    1. Hello!

Yes, drop-side cribs are banned since 2011. They were great for short moms, but unfortunately, there were too many accidents. You can read more in our article: New baby crib safety standards.

As there are a lot of bulky cribs with huge frames on the market, we always tend to include several low profile cribs on our best of lists too. Short moms really do struggle with placing their sleeping babies over the rails into high cribs.

Although I personally didn’t have such problems, I have lots of friends who made me think about that issue. That’s why I wrote another article with the best cribs for short moms, where you can find more low profile cribs.

Low profile cribs, like Union 3-in-1 convertible crib, or Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 convertible crib are lower because of their shorter legs, not rails. So your baby is as safe as in any other convertible crib, and he won’t “escape” sooner either. Those cribs are as good or even better than lots of convertible cribs, otherwise, we would not place them amongst the best convertible cribs of this year.

But as far as the dog jumping into the low profile convertible crib…. So in theory, this can happen sooner than in higher cribs, but I don’t think it will be a problem. As a dog lover, who is having dogs all my life, I wouldn’t have such concerns. Dogs are very protective to babies and usually treat them as their own, so yeah he will probably lick baby’s face through the crib’s rails if he can, but that’s it. 🙂

You can find more about Union 3-in-1 convertible crib in our review.

      Regards, Ines

  7. We sure have come a long way in terms of baby products. I just found out the other day that there is a Kreug version of a baby’s formula, with perfect temperature for the baby! Love it! Thank you so much for your suggestion and a review on each convertible baby cribs 🙂 I have to say that GRACO SOLANO 4-IN-1 CONVERTIBLE CRIB WITH DRAWER caught my attention. I always need more space to store baby stuff. I have to say that for it’s functionality $199 is totally worth it, very affordable.

     Cheers!

    1. Hello!

Yeah, convertible cribs with underneath drawer perfectly use otherwise unutilized space under the crib. A drawer under the crib has several advantages:

it is great additional storage for all baby belongingsdust does not accumulate under the cribyour baby can’t hide toys under the crib ( believe me, it’s not fun to crawl under the crib every day)

We have chosen Graco Solano as the best convertible crib with a storage drawer because you get a quality crib for a reasonable price.

If you are interested, we have a whole article about the best convertible cribs with underneath drawers.

  8. Hi! You have helped me decide which crib suits my needs better. With all these options considered here I feel I’ve picked the best among the best.

When I started reading this post I initially thought of purchasing Union crib. But after giving it more careful thought, I’ve decided the best for me is Graco Benton. Would you consider this the best choice considering price-quality ratio? I’ve also tried to find something negative about it and have not been able.

    1. Hello!

Yes, if you intend to convert the crib all the way to the adult bed, is Graco Benton considering the price-quality ratio the best convertible crib you can choose.

You will have to buy a safety guardrail for a toddler bed, and a conversion kit for an adult bed, but the overall price stays very affordable.

By the way, Graco’s cribs are made by Strokcraft, which is one of the leading baby crib manufacturers. Its cribs are safe, durable, and high value amongst parents!

  9. Hi Ines, very good and informative article about convertible cribs. I like the fact that you focused on not very high budget products, cause most of us couldn`t afford it. I should ask my girlfriend but cause I`m reading your article I can say that from the list I would choose Delta Children Emery 4 in 1 Convertible Crib. You mentioned dropping side cribs, I really didn`t know they are so dangerous.. Are they still on the market? Very good review, thanks for sharing with us!

    1. Hi, Luke!

Yeah, we always tend to include products with reasonable prices in our reviews. It is the fact that most of all can’t afford a convertible crib that cost 1000$ or even more.
And from our experiences, you don’t need them! In a sense of quality, some are even worse than models on our “best of list”. They are not better or safer because of the price, as you are paying for the brand not better quality!
Hey, even Royal baby has Babyletto Hudson convertible crib. 🙂

Selling the drooping side cribs is banned since 2011. Those models shouldn’t be on the market anymore!
But even if they are not on the market anymore, I try to emphasize this as often as I can. Many parents decide on a used baby crib, and they should avoid dropping side cribs.
As you already mention, there are a lot of quality low budget convertible cribs on the market, that are much better from drop-side cribs in a sense of safeness.

      Regards, Ines
